My Facebook status all week has been “Hungry to God for a breakthrough in the near future”.
Are you also hungry and desperate for breakthrough in your life?
- Greater spiritual potency
- A restored relationship
- Healing or provision
- Direction for the future
- A friend with desparate needs
- Revival in your church
Whatever breakthrough you’re looking for, I’m predicting that Sunday February 28th could be a big day for you.
That’s because we’re holding a “Breakthrough Day” after the 10:30 service until 7pm. We’ll listen, speak, reflect, relax as a community in prayer. Something I think you’ll find totally unique, refreshing and spiritually empowering.
How To Prepare Spiritually
For many of you, this may be the first time you’ve ever done something like this – fervently seeking and expecting a breakthrough. There is some spiritual preparation you can do. It involves listening for God’s voice in answer to specific questions.
Here are some good ones to start with:
- If Jesus was totally in control of my life, what would change first?
- Is there one area of disobedience He wants me to address?
- What power struggle is battling inside me for control?
- Are there persistent needs for healing and provision?
- Do I have nagging thoughts or vulnerable situations?
- Do I have attitudes of apathy, fear, anger or disappointment?
- Which traits of Jesus Christ could I develop more fully?
- What decision needs clear direction?
- What goals and dreams does God want to impart to me?
- Who around me has needs?
How To Prepare Physically
The day is centred on congregational fasting. If you’ve never fasted before, don’t let it scare you. You’ll be amazed with the process, the focus, and the clarity you’ll gain. In fact, fasting has been called the spiritual “atomic bomb” given to us by God. It’s that powerful.
There is a way to get the most out of a fast, even if you’re like me and eat large portions of poor quality food (burgers are a personal favourite).
Bill Bright taught me how to fast in his booklet “7 Steps To Fasting”. I think you may also find it helpful. You can find it at this link:

Your Personal Guide To Fasting and Prayer
If you remember nothing else, eat lightly leading into a fast (don’t eat a big meal the night before). You want to ease in.
IMPORTANT: If you have any special health concerns or or needs, take responsible measures to consult a physician prior to fasting. It may not be advisable for you.
Personally, I’m really looking forward to Sunday. I’m excited to see how it impacts you and I’m banking on it having a deep impact on our church.
See you Sunday. And when we’re through, tell me what your breakthrough was. I’m really interested to know.

Hey Adam,
I am really excited for this sunday and this new initiative. I am doing a lent fast for 40 days and this post will be helpful for me to explain to others what and why I am doing a fast.
I will pray for the HPBC community and the financial situation. I didn’t realize it was that bad. I hope that this challenge will bring everyone closer together and that God provides.
Bless you brother,
Terry
